What you get
- A parent report the moment the practice test ends, no account: answers by paper, where to start, and three short sessions for this week.
- Print it or save it as a PDF. Saving to a free account is optional.
How the range is worked out
- Each question has a difficulty level from our QE question bank. Difficulty levels are set by our question writers.
- In each paper we find the ability that best explains how many your son got right, allowing for how hard those questions were.
- QE's scores are age-standardised. We use the usual 11+ scale, where the boys who sit the test average 100 in each paper with most between 85 and 115, place your son's ability on it and add English and maths, as QE does. The result is our estimate on that scale.
- For 2025 entry, 764 of the 3,433 boys who sat (22%) reached that year's minimum of 220, which this scale also puts near the top quarter. With 15 questions the range is wide; a full timed mock narrows it.
Questions
Is this an official QE paper?
No. The questions are our own, written for QE's English and maths papers, and each one was solved independently by two solvers. QE links to GL Assessment's familiarisation materials.
How accurate is the score?
It is a range, because 15 questions cannot pin down one score. A full timed QE mock covers far more of the test. It is an estimate, never QE's own score.
How long does it take?
15 minutes: English 7 and maths 8. QE does not publish question counts or timings for its papers.
Do we need an account?
No. A parent report shows straight away: answers by paper, where to start and three sessions for this week, to print or save as a PDF. A free account is optional; it keeps the report and works through every answer.
What score does QE need?
QE's minimum for 2027 entry is 225. It makes a boy eligible to be considered; places go in score order. The lowest score admitted for 2025 entry was 235.
