Start with the free English and maths familiarisation QE links. Pupil Premium families can also get free Atom support through the school. Pay for extra help only when it fixes a specific gap.

Compare what happens after a mistake

Run a short trial and judge it on his work.
A Year 4 starting point
- Read a passage together and ask which detail proves an answer.
- Practise number methods he can explain before chasing speed.
- Keep one note of a skill to revisit.
In Year 5, add familiarisation papers and timed questions.
Compare the full cost
Ask for the total over the whole period: materials, renewals, holiday sessions and cancellation.
Worked example Total the commitment
A plan costs £20 per month for six months, with a £15 workbook. What is the total?
Answer: 6 × £20 + £15 = £135.
The trap: Comparing £20 with one tutoring session ignores the six months.
